Mary Briney of Nesconset has been named Volunteer of the Year for 2013 by Stony Brook University Hospital in recognition of her "dedicated volunteer service" to the facility, hospital officials said. Briney, a senior volunteer, began her service in 2011 and since then has donated nearly 500 hours to patients undergoing treatment at the Stony Brook University Cancer Center. She is also credited with coordinating a biweekly soup luncheon for the center's cancer patients and acts as an ambassador for the hospital's inpatient arts-in-medicine program.
