Mary C. Hodge of East Meadow recently received the Citizen's Choice Award from the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County (UCPN) in recognition of her dedication and service to the field. Hodge is coordinator of UCPN's Day Habilitation Program and head coach of the Nassau Thunderbolts, a competitive sports team for adult athletes with disabilities that she established in 1988. She has also been selected as head coach for Team USA in the past four Paralympics Games, as well as three Para Pan American Games and three World Championship teams, and holds the distinction of being the first woman ever selected as head coach for the U.S. Paralympic Powerlifting Team.
