Michelle Schmitt of Jericho recently received the Emerging Leader Award from the Alumni Association of Touro Law Center for making "exceptional strides" in her profession and for serving as a role model for graduating students, the organization said. Schmitt is an associate in real estate practice at law firm Certilman Balin and a mentor in Mentoring Partnership of Long Island's Lawyers Involved in Kids' Education program. She also volunteers at the Little Shelter animal rescue center in Huntington and is a member of the American, New York State, Nassau and Suffolk bar associations.
