Miriam Ochani of Searingtown has been named New York State's RN of the Year for 2013 by the New York State Health Facilities Association in recognition of her "compassion and commitment to caregiving," the organization said. Ochani is a wound-care specialist at Glen Cove Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation, where she has worked the past six years. She began her career as a staff nurse at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn in 1978. She also has worked as a real estate agent and sponsors a child in India through ChildFund International, a global child development and protection agency.
