Patricia Birbiglia of Bellmore has received a 2012 Women of Distinction Award from New York State's 19th Assembly District based on her "extraordinary efforts" to make her community a better place. Birbiglia is director of transition and placement services at the Viscardi Center in Albertson and has developed or expanded numerous programs for individuals with disabilities, including a retention attendance program for disabled youth. She is also a member of local organizations including the New York State Rehabilitation Association's School Partnership Committee and the Nassau Placement Network.
