Robert J. McMahon of Glen Cove is one of 10 individuals nationwide to receive a 2011 Lewis Hine Award for Service to Children and Youth by the National Child Labor Committee, based on his efforts "helping protect the rights and well-being of children and youth." McMahon recently retired after nearly four decades as executive director of SCO Family of Services, a Glen Cove-based nonprofit that provides shelter and various services to those in need. Under his leadership SCO has grown to serve more than 40,000 people annually at 122 tri-state area locations.
