Russell Ainbinder of Calverton has received the 2013 Outstanding Advocate for Science and Technology Award from the Science of Museum on Long Island in recognition of his contribution toward the advancement of, and education in, the areas of science and technology. Ainbinder has been an earth science teacher at Manhasset Secondary School for six years and has worked as a professional assistant in astronomy at Suffolk County Community College since 2002. He is also a Dowling College alumnus, a member of the Long Island Mineral and Gem Society, and is associated with the Custer Institute in Southold.
