Sharon Dungee of Central Islip has received the 2012 Community Member of the Year Award in the field of education from the Town of Islip based on her "positive influence" and numerous contributions to the development of education and betterment of children. Dungee is principal of Cordello Elementary School in Central Islip and the first vice president of the "I Am CI" Foundation. She also participates in the nonprofit Keep Islip Clean and volunteers with several local youth athletic groups.
