Shmuel Einav of Port Jefferson Station has received the 2012 Landau Prize for Scientific Research from Mifal Hapayis, the national lottery of Israel, in recognition of his lifetime achievements in cardiovascular biomedical engineering. Einav is a professor of biomedical engineering at Stony Brook University, which he joined in 2004. The focus of his laboratory work is the investigation of basic physiological flow phenomena in context with cellular and tissue engineering. He has also published more than 120 scientific papers and is a member of scientific organizations including the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Physical Society, and the International Society for Applied Cardiovascular Biology.
