Sister Mary Anna Euring of West Islip recently received the Bernstein Award from Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for "embodying the virtues of humanitarianism, compassion and empathy." Euring, a certified grief counselor, is the hospital's former director of pastoral care and recently retired as hospital chaplain, a position she held since 1998. She is also credited with developing Bridge to Hope, a bereavement program at the hospital that offers care, support and education to help those facing a challenging time.
