Stephanie Brown of Port Jefferson was one of nine people from the United States and United Kingdom to receive the 2010 Science of Generosity Award and a $150,000 grant from Notre Dame University for science research. She's an associate professor at Stony Brook University's Center for Medical Humanities, Compassionate Care and Bioethics. Her research with University of Michigan psychiatry professor James Swain uses neuroimaging to test whether generosity is related to prenatal instincts.
