Stephen Schlissel of Long Beach recently received the Distinguished Service Medallion from the Nassau County Bar Association in recognition of service that has "enhanced the reputation and dignity of the legal profession through his philanthropic efforts, legal expertise and extraordinary contributions to those in need," the organization said. Schlissel is a founding and managing partner at Garden City-based law firm Schlissel Ostrow Karabatos, which specializes in matrimonial and family law. He is also co-founder of the Nassau County Interdisciplinary Forum and Parents Education And Custody Effectiveness (PEACE), an education program for divorcing and separating parents.
