Thelma Gerold of Bellmore recently received the Older Adult Ministry Award from United Adult Ministries based on her "outstanding contributions to her church and community." Gerold is an ordained deacon of Bellmore Presbyterian Church, where her volunteer activities range from folding church bulletins to overseeing blood drives to preparing meals with a church team for the Interfaith Nutritional Network in Freeport. She is also actively involved with the women's auxiliary of South Nassau Community Hospital in Oceanside, where she plays a key role in planning and running the auxiliary's benefit luncheon.
