Vickie Calderon of West Babylon has received the Champion for Children Educational Leadership Award from the New York State Association for the Education of Young Children based on her achievements in the field. Calderon is director of child care at Suffolk County Community College's Suffolk Kids' Cottage in Brentwood and previously served as director of child care centers at three different upstate colleges. She is also a local assessor of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and is past president of the New York State Coalition for Campus Children's Centers.
