Denise L. Sher of Hewlett Harbor has received the 2010 Stephen Gassman Award from the Nassau County Bar Association for her service to the

We Care Fund, a charitable arm of the association. Sher is an acting justice in the Nassau County Supreme Court and was elected to the Nassau County District Court in 1995. She was the first female judge elected as president of the district court's board of judges in 2001 and is a trustee of the Hofstra University School of Law's Alumni Association.
