Fred Philips of Central Islip has received the 2010 School Board Service Award of Excellence from SCOPE Education Services in Smithtown for his dedication to local youth. Philips has been a member of the Central Islip school district's Board of Education for 28 years and helped to institute the district's kindergarten programs. He also served as president of the district's PTA Council and Mulvey Elementary School PTA and and is a member of the Islip Town School Boards Association.
