John Smith of Central Islip has received the 2010 Community Service Award from the Suffolk County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission for his dedication to serving children and residents of Central Islip. Smith is vice

president and past president of the district's Board of Education and is

a counseling coach for the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church of God

in Central Islip. He is also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
