Thomas Ludlam

of Cutchogue has been named a fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science for his role in the development of Brookhaven National Laboratory's Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, an

accelerator that collides high-energy beams of atomic nuclei for experimental study. Ludlam joined Brookhaven in 1978. From 1990 to 1999, he served as associate project head for the collider's construction and became the lab's associate chair of nuclear physics in 2004.
