Valerie Michelsen

of Glen Cove was the honoree of the North Shore Sheltering Program's 2010 dinner-dance for her continued service to the outreach program. Michelsen has been a nurse volunteer since the shelter opened 13 years ago and is a current board member. She previously worked as a nurse at North Shore University Hospital in Glen Cove and Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre and, until 2009, was a professor in the nursing program at Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus.
