LI marine academy student rescued during sailing competition
A Merchant Marines Academy at King's Point student was rescued Saturday after being injured during a sailing competition in Annapolis, Md., a U.S. Coast Guard spokesman said.
The academy's offshore sailing coach was transporting Benjamin Reavis, 21, who had a cut above his eye, back to shore in an inflatable motor boat when they started having engine trouble near Fishing Creek, said Coast Guard spokesman Petty Officer Second Class Brandyn Hill.
The Coast Guard's Annapolis station received their call at 1:57 p.m. and responded within 10 minutes to take Reavis to shore, where he was taken to a Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.
It was not clear Sunday how Reavis cut his eye.
