NORTH BELLPORT / Girl, 11, in crash critical but stable
An-11-year-old girl remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition Monday night after she was struck by a car in North Bellport, hospital officials said.
Khalima Jones of North Bellport was struck while walking with family to her great-grandmother's home on Station Road about 11:40 p.m. Friday, police said. Jones was first taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue and then transferred to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where she underwent extensive surgery.
She had a head injury and multiple broken bones from striking the windshield of the car, police said. No charges were brought against the driver.

NEW CASSEL / Two men shot; one of them critically hurt
Two men in New Cassel were shot and wounded, one critically, early Monday morning, Nassau police said.
A 21-year-old and a 24-year-old were in the vicinity of Third Street and Brush Hollow Road about 12:44 a.m. when the shooting took place, police said. Both men were taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.
The 21-year-old, who was shot in the arm, leg and chest, was admitted to the hospital in critical condition, police said. The 24-year-old was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg, and was released.
Detectives asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
