A 26-year-old man was killed and three other occupants were injured early Wednesday morning when their eastbound SUV overturned on the Long Island Expressway in Queens and struck a median, police said.

Arriving NYPD officers found the 2001 Nissan Xterra overturned on the right shoulder of the highway near Parsons Boulevard at about 2:15 a.m., police said. The 31-year-old driver was taken to New York Hospital Queens, where he was in critical condition with head and body injuries, police said.

The two rear-seat passengers were in stable condition at the same hospital after being treated for minor injuries, police said.

The identities of the men and their hometowns were not released.

Police said the vehicle struck the center median, went across three traffic lanes, struck the curb on the shoulder of the road and overturned.
