LIRR adds extra trains for New Year's Day

Wednesday is New Year's Day. All banks, government offices, courts and schools are closed. Post offices will be closed. The Long Island Rail Road will provide extra trains Tuesday, including 11 additional early-afternoon eastbound trains from Penn Station and 20 added late-afternoon/early-evening westbound trains into Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal. On Wednesday, the railroad will be running on a holiday schedule with 18 additional early-morning eastbound trains departing Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal between 12:35 a.m. and 4:19 a.m. The NICE bus system will be running on a Sunday schedule Wednesday and there will be no Suffolk Transit bus service.
