LIRR: After switching woes, service runs on or close to schedule on every branch

Service out of Penn Station has been running on or close to schedule after switching problems caused delays and the cancellation of several eastbound trains during the afternoon rush hour, the Long Island Rail Road said early Monday evening.

The LIRR said all branches were affected by the Amtrak's troubles in guiding trains from one track to another in the East River tunnels

The problems had prompted the LIRR to drop the 4:43 p.m. train from Penn due at Port Washington at 5:21 p.m.; the 4:54 p.m. train from Penn Station, due at Farmingdale at 5:56 p.m.; the 5:06 p.m. train from Penn, due at Huntington at 6:07 p.m.; 5:19 p.m. train from Penn, due at Wantagh at 6:06 p.m.; the 5:20 p.m. train from Penn due at Long Beach at 6:11 p.m.; 5:26 p.m. train from Penn, due at Port Washington at 6:04 p.m.; and the 5:40 p.m. train from Penn, due at Seaford at 6:30 p.m.

At least one westbound train was canceled: the 6:04 p.m. train from Great Neck, due in Penn at 6:42 p.m.

Passengers will be accommodated by subsequent trains, which will make all stops, the LIRR said.

Riders should still expect delays of up to 20 minutes east of Jamaica, the railroad said.

Access into Penn Station is no longer restricted, LIRR said.
