The LIRR said it was operating on or close to schedule into and out of Penn Station after earlier delays and cancellations during Tuesday’s morning commute because of a track condition in one of the East River tunnels.

Customers were alerted to the track issue in emails and by social media at about 7 a.m.; the Long Island Rail Road said customers also should expect some trains being diverted to Atlantic Terminal and others being canceled at Jamaica station.

Shortly after 9 a.m. the railroad said it was on or close.

Earlier, the LIRR had said residual delays in and out of Penn Station were averaging 10 minutes because of the track condition.
