An unattended backpack caused delays in both directions on the Long Island Rail Road’s Babylon and Montauk branches during the Friday morning rush, a spokeswoman for railroad said.

The trains were suspended about 8 a.m. as authorities investigated the backpack at the Babylon station, which had been left on a staircase, the spokeswoman said.

There was nothing harmful found in the backpack and by 11:30 a.m. all trains along the route were expected to resume normal operations, the spokeswoman said.
