The Long Island Rail Road is on or close to schedule Monday night after earlier issuing a commuter alert during the evening rush hour warning riders of disruptions to the LIRR's schedule.

Some of the evening's LIRR train runs were canceled or combined, and other runs were delayed, the railroad said.

A broken rail in one of the East River tunnels caused the disruption.

The LIRR asked riders to listen to announcements for track and departure changes.
