LIRR: Eastbound delays after signal trouble

Signal trouble west of Woodside caused cancellations, diversions and delays on the Long Island Rail Road Monday, according to the MTA website.

Just before 10 a.m. the railroad announced it was operating "on or close to schedule" westbound between Jamaica and Penn Station, but said eastbound delays were still running between 15 to 20 minutes.

More than a dozen trains were affected during the morning rush hour, some, including the 8:21 a.m. train from Far Rockaway to Penn and the 8:35 a.m. train from Babylon to Penn, canceled at Jamaica.

Other trains were diverted to Atlantic Terminal.

Officials said customers traveling to Penn were able to detrain in Jamaica and transfer to the E subway train or take the No. 2 or 3 subway train from Atlantic Terminal to Penn.

The cause of the signal problems was not clear.
