LIRR: Expect delays on Port Jefferson branch during a.m. rush
A broken rail caused delays Monday morning, mostly on the Port Jefferson branch, and canceled one train, the Long Island Rail Road said.
The commuter service said the broken rail near the Oakwood Road crossing, east of the Cold Spring Harbor station, was discovered at about 5:30 a.m. and repaired at about 9 a.m.
Spokeswoman Meredith Daniels said the LIRR had 24 morning peak delays, including some on the Oyster Bay and Ronkonkoma branches. A majority of the delays -- but not all -- were caused by the broken rail, she said.
The LIRR alerted customers of the broken rail in an email just before 6 a.m.
The canceled train was the 7:12 a.m. from Huntington due at Penn Station at 8:10 a.m.
