LIRR: On or close after a.m. rush delays, cancellations

The Long Island Rail Road said it was operating on or close to schedule Friday afternoon following issues that caused cancellations and delays on most branches during the cold morning rush hour.

Of the LIRR’s 144 scheduled morning rush hour trains, 12 were canceled and 42 had delays of six to 60 minutes, a spokesman said.

On-time performance for the morning was 62.5 percent, the spokesman said. All branches except Port Washington were affected.

A third rail issue was identified in Rockville Centre at about 7:30 a.m., and as of 8:41 a.m. delays had been averaging 20 minutes, an LIRR spokesman said.
