LIRR: 'On or close' after signal trouble

The Long Island Rail Road said it was "on or close" to schedule mid-morning Wednesday following signal trouble near Woodside that caused delays of up to 20 minutes on eastbound trains.

The railroad said that by 10:20 a.m. all trains were back on schedule -- after the signal trouble was resolved about an hour earlier.

Westbound trains were largely unaffected by the issues, Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesman Aaron Donovan said. He said the cause of the problem was not immediately known.

The issue caused a "handful" of delays to trains on the Babylon, Long Beach, Port Jefferson, Port Washington and Ronkonkoma branches, Donovan said.

It was not known how many trains were affected.

Additionally, a scheduled track work program is affecting midday service on the Montauk branch -- with a combination of trains and buses being used to provide service between Babylon and Patchogue/Speonk as grade crossing upgrades are performed, the railroad said. Those midday issues will continue until Friday and then again next week.
