LIRR: Oyster Bay service delayed after vehicle strikes bridge

Service on the Oyster Bay branch of the Long Island Rail Road was delayed early Wednesday after a truck hit an undergrade bridge east of Locust Valley, the commuter service said.

Service delays were as long as 44 minutes for eastbound trains, the agency said shortly before 9:30 a.m.

Service was temporarily terminated in Locust Valley and customers were accommodated by buses to Oyster Bay station. Westbound service was temporarily suspended between Oyster Bay and East Williston as late as 9:30 a.m., and customers were advised to travel to Hicksville or Mineola for westbound service.

A spokeswoman for the LIRR said delays were because authorities had to clear the bridge on Buckram Road for service after it was struck by the truck.

She said no LIRR personnel or passengers were injured, but she was unsure about injuries to the driver of the truck.
