Service restored on 4 LIRR lines east of Jamaica after person killed
Service suspensions have ended after a person was struck and killed by an oncoming Long Island Rail Road train in Queens on Saturday night, transit officials said.
The unidentified victim was walking on the tracks near the station in Hollis when they were struck by the train just before 7:30 p.m., officials said.
LIRR service was temporarily suspended east of Jamaica on the Hempstead, Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches due to the incident, transit officials said.
Customers had been directed to the South Shore branches, which include Babylon and Montauk.
Regular service was restored a little after 9:30 p.m., officials said. Riders were still warned of residual delays.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police officers were still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
