LIRR: Port Jefferson branch back on schedule

The Long Island Rail Road said trains on its Port Jefferson branch are back on schedule after an earlier broken rail condition in the Huntington area that caused 10-to-15 minute delays Monday.

The announcement came just before 7:30 a.m.

Earlier delays affected both eastbound and westbound trains, the railroad said.

The railroad first said the delays were caused by a broken rail condition east of Huntington station, but later said the broken rail was west of Huntington.

Several trains were immediately affected, including the 5:46 a.m. train from Huntington to Penn Station, as well as the 4:55 a.m. train from Port Jefferson to Hunterspoint Avenue, the railroad said in a statement posted on the MTA website.
