LIRR restores limited service on 4 lines, rush hour begins

The Long Island Rail Road has resumed some service on four of its 11 lines Tuesday morning following one of the longest service suspensions in years, as a relatively calm rush hour on the roads has begun.

"The plan is to concentrate our efforts on those primary branches . . . and go from there," said LIRR spokesman Joe Calderone, who added that the LIRR would aim to restore service on other lines throughout the day. "It will not be a normal morning rush hour."

The LIRR has restored limited service westbound from Penn Station to Ronkonkoma, Port Washington, Huntington and Babylon branches. 

On the roads, no major accidents were reported Tuesday morning, though traffic is heavy on the Long Island Expressay in Nassau.

The Long Island Power Authority is reporting 850 outages.
