Long Island Rail Road "is running on or close to schedule" after a track condition east of the East River tunnels caused delays during the evening rush hour.

Commuters had been advised to "anticipate possible delays of up to 15 minutes and/or some cancellations in both directions," the LIRR said.

The LIRR said in an alert to commuters that the delays were due to "a track condition," east of the East River tunnels.

The problem was related to an issue with an insulated joint at the point where two rails are joined together, and workers were addressing it, a spokeswoman said.

The track condition "is not impacting service at this time," the LIRR said in an alert to customers shortly before 6 p.m.
