LIRR service restored after person struck, killed on Far Rockaway Branch
The Long Island Rail Road has restored service on the Far Rockaway Branch between that community and Valley Stream after a trespasser was struck and killed by a train near Hewlett earlier Friday, the railroad said.
No other information was immediately available on the person who was hit.
The LIRR tweeted that the 12:36 p.m. train from Far Rockaway, due at Atlantic Terminal at 1:33 p.m., would be the first train heading west, and that the 12:35 p.m. from Atlantic, due at Far Rockaway at 1:32 p.m., would be the first train heading east.
Earlier, the railroad on Twitter said it had canceled the 10:36 a.m. train from Far Rockaway due at Atlantic Terminal at 11:33 a.m..
Nassau police referred inquiries to the railroad.
