LIRR signal woes fixed, trains on schedule
Eastbound LIRR trains are back on schedule after being delayed and or canceled due to a signal problem in the Amtrak tunnel under the East River late Thursday afternoon, a spokesman said.
Smoke was seen coming out of a signal about 5 p.m., but that was fixed by 6:15, said LIRR spokesman Aaron Donovan.
The problem caused up to 10-minute delays in all eastbound lines, according to the LIRR website. Five eastbound trains and one westbound train were canceled, Donovan said. For example, the train due at Wantagh at 6:06 p.m. was canceled and its stops picked up by the Freeport train, LIRR said.
