LIRR to add 16 trains for U.S. women's soccer team ticker-tape parade

The Long Island Rail Road will add 16 trains Friday in anticipation of heavy traffic to and from the ticker-tape parade honoring the World Cup champion U.S. women's soccer team.

Six westbound trains between 9 and 10 a.m. will carry passengers to the Manhattan parade and 10 eastbound trains will complement the existing eastbound schedule between 2 and 4 p.m., according to a Metropolitan Transportation Authority news release.

Passengers should not expect increased travel times, MTA spokesman Salvatore Arena said.

Riders can travel to either Penn Station or Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn and take the subway to reach the parade, which will begin at 11 a.m. at the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House, near Broadway and Battery Place, and conclude at City Hall at 1 p.m.

Those planning to attend the parade should purchase round-trip tickets and MetroCards to save time, the MTA said.
