LIRR: Service to, from Penn Station restored
Westbound LIRR service to Penn Station was restored late Monday afternoon after a track condition led to problems that also affected the eastbound, rush-hour commute, the LIRR said.
The problem started about 4:45 p.m. on tracks just outside the East River tunnels, but it was resolved by 5:35 p.m., the Long Island Rail Road said.
About eight eastbound trains had been canceled due to the tunnels' limited capacity, and the number of westbound trains affected was not immediately available, the LIRR said.
Westbound trains were operating up to 18 minutes late, authorities said.
