LIRR: Train kills woman on tracks near New Hyde Park

A woman was struck and killed Sunday afternoon on the Long Island Rail Road tracks west of New Hyde Park, resulting in a temporary suspension of service between Jamaica and Mineola that was fully restored as of 7 p.m.
LIRR spokesman Salvatore Arena said the "unauthorized person" was on the tracks near the Covert Avenue crossing and struck about 3:25 p.m., prompting Metropolitan Transit Authority police to shut down service in both directions.
At 7 p.m. MTA officials announced they were resuming service on both tracks, after earlier relying on one track for limited service.
Arena said commuters on the Ronkonkoma, Port Jefferson and Oyster Bay branches should expect "residual delays" of up to 45 minutes.
MTA police are investigating the crash as a possible suicide, Arena said.
