LIRR: Woman struck by train in Forest Hills
An unidentified woman was struck by a westbound Long Island Rail Road train from Babylon at the Forest Hills station, causing delays in both directions, railroad officials said.
The 6 p.m. crash forced the closure of at least two of four tracks and the suspension of several train lines, said Salvatore Arena, an LIRR spokesman.
It was unclear whether the woman, who Metropolitan Transportation Authority police said was about 55 years old, had taken her own life.
Arena said eastbound trains from Penn Station were back on schedule shortly after 8 p.m.
During the interruption in service, the Huntington, Ronkonkoma, Port Washington and Babylon lines were operating on an hourly basis from Penn Station as of 7:07 p.m.
Commuters traveling on the other lines from Penn were asked to take subway trains to either Atlantic or Jamaica stations, where they could board LIRR trains heading to the other destinations.
