SOUTHOLD

Man accused in shooting

charged in another attack

A gang member arrested last week in connection with a Southold shooting was charged yesterday in a Riverhead shooting after authorities concluded the same gun was used in both cases, Riverhead police said.

Albino Dejesus Medina, 20, of Bay Shore, was charged with first-degree assault after a man walking home in Riverhead was shot twice in the back Oct. 10, police said.

Ballistics on the bullets found in the back of Deyvi Perez, 19, of Riverhead, matched those for a gun used four days later in a gang-related feud, police said.

Perez had told investigators there were two men when he was shot about 11:30 p.m., and Riverhead police are investigating.

The victim in the Southold shooting was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for emergency surgery and was released, police said.

Medina was arraigned yesterday in Riverhead Justice Court and given a $100 bail because he was still being detained by Southold pending a $500,000 bond or $250,000 cash bail.

Medina's attorney could not be reached. Medina had been arrested Nov. 12 as a member of the notorious MS-13 street gang and the fifth person that authorities believe was part of a group that shot two men on South Harbor Road in Southold on Oct. 14, police said. GREAT NECK

NICE bus making turn

hits 2 women, child

Two women and a child were taken to the hospital after being struck by a NICE bus while attempting to cross a street yesterday morning in Great Neck, Nassau County police said.

One of the women, identified only as a 64-year-old, suffered minor injuries, police said. The other woman, 34, and the child, a 2-year-old boy, had no apparent injuries but also were taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the Queens-bound N20 bus, which travels between Hicksville and Flushing, had the green light and was making a left turn from Great Neck Road to southbound South Middle Neck Road when the pedestrians were hit, according to a statement from the Nassau Inter County Express.

The driver, who has been driving buses for 27 years, stopped, according to the bus company.

No one was charged.

A 19-year-old baby-sitter and a 5-year-old child in her care were struck and injured by a car while walking through a shopping center parking lot in Holbrook on Tuesday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

Two other children in the woman's care were uninjured.

Police said the accident occurred at 4:55 p.m. at the Sun Vet Mall on Sunrise Highway.

The baby-sitter and child, neither of whom was identified by police, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Both were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue for treatment.

Police said the woman and the three children, two boys and a girl ages 5 to 11, were walking to their car when two of them were struck by a 1997 Ford Taurus driven by Marianne Stemmler, 57, of Blue Point. Stemmler was not injured or charged.
