HICKSVILLE
Burglar uses cinder block
to break into pharmacy
Police are investigating a burglary early yesterday of a Hicksville pharmacy in which "assorted prescription pills" were taken, Nassau County police said.
Using a cinder block, an unknown subject broke the glass on the front door of Smith Pharmacy, 53 N. Broadway, at 5:42 yesterday morning and took "an undetermined amount of pharmaceuticals," police said.

Pedestrian in hospital after being hit on Sunrise Hwy.
A pedestrian walking on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa had a serious head injury after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon, Nassau County police said.
The victim, a man, 42, was walking east on the highway at East Chestnut Street when he was hit at 3:30 p.m. by a 2002 Honda CR-V, a sport utility vehicle, driven by a woman, 21.
The man was taken to a hospital where he was in guarded condition, police said.
Police performed a safety check on the vehicle at the scene and said later in a news release that "no criminality is suspected."

Man accused of using fake
coupons to buy power tools
A Melville man was arrested yesterday and charged with using fake buy-one, get-one-free coupons to buy $7,000 worth of power tools at Home Depot stores, Nassau County police said.
Dianjeng Jiang, 41, of 12 Reinhart Ct., was arrested outside his home just before 7 a.m. He was charged with third-degree grand larceny and second-degree possession of a forged instrument, police said.
Police said that beginning in January 2011, Jiang was involved in "a scheme using fraudulently created manufacturer coupons" for Milwaukee and Bosch power tools that enabled him to buy items under a BOGO -- or, buy-one, get-one-free arrangement -- from Home Depot stores throughout Nassau County and elsewhere.
Police said Jiang purchased the items and then, at a later date, returned the merchandise for a cash refund.
The fake deals bilked the stores out of more than $7,000, according to police.
Jiang faces arraignment today in First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
