Cops: Pawned items lead to arrest
A residential burglary investigation led to the arrest of a Baldwin man Tuesday, after detectives discovered proceeds from the theft had been sold to two local pawnbrokers, police said.
David Aguiar, 25, of 2590 Central Ave., was arrested at his home at 5:40 p.m. and was charged with two counts of second-degree burglary and two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. He faced arraignment yesterday in First District Court in Hempstead but information on bail wasn't available online.
Nassau County police said First Squad detectives, investigating a home burglary that occurred on Central Avenue on Nov. 3, discovered items taken from that burglary had been sold to the pawnshops -- and then tied those items to Aguiar.
MASTIC BEACH
Trio sought in theft of flags at park
Suffolk County police and Crime Stoppers are looking for three people who stole flags flying from a Mastic Beach park in August.
Police yesterday released photographs of the suspects taken from video surveillance cameras at Osprey Park on Oceanview Drive.
At about 8:35 p.m. on Aug. 23, two men and a woman climbed a flagpole at the park to remove a U.S. flag, a Town of Brookhaven flag and a Prisoner of War flag.

2 men sought in cabdriver robbery
Nassau County police said they are investigating a Roosevelt robbery yesterday in which two men armed with a handgun took cash and a cellphone from a cabdriver.
First Squad detectives said the two suspects pulled a black handgun, demanding cash from an All Island Taxi driver at about 4:10 a.m.
The cabdriver, 57, was waiting to pick up a fare on Matson Road when he was approached by the two men, police said.
The two took an unspecified amount of cash and a cellphone before running off on Matson Road.
The driver was not injured, police said.
One suspect is described as 18 or 19 years old, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
The other is also 18 or 19 years old and was wearing a blue-and-white striped hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

SOUTH FARMINGDALE
$28G, drugs found by cops in home
Bureau of Special Operations officers conducting a drug investigation arrested a South Farmingdale man outside his house Tuesday, then executed a warrant at the home -- recovering $28,000 and cocaine.
Nassau County police said Veselko T. Pavkovic, 41, of 117 Pleasant Dr., was arrested and charged with five counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
He faced arraignment yesterday in First District Court in Hempstead, where bail was set at $25,000 bond or $15,000 cash, online records show.
Police said officers arrested Pavkovic as he left the house Tuesday at 2:25 p.m. The officers then executed a warrant at the home, recovering an undisclosed amount of cocaine and the $28,000 in cash.
