Long Island forecast: Wet, windy start to workweek

It’s a wet and windy Monday across Long Island, the National Weather Service said.

Periods of rain persist, with patchy fog developing during the late afternoon, the service’s Upton office said.

Daily highs will get near 50, but by about noon the temperatures start dropping to the 40- to 45-degree range, News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said.

Also, there’s a breezy east wind at 18 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph, he said. Wind chill values will make it feel as low as 30 degrees at times, Hoffman said.

While temperatures remain above normal for most of this week, conditions “will be unsettled with numerous chances of wet weather through Sunday,” Hoffman said.

Overall Monday, new rainfall amounts are expected to be one-quarter and one-half inch.

Clouds and scattered showers continue through the overnight hours, with winds shifting northeast at 15 to 25 mph. Lows are in the 40s.

Tuesday morning also looks to be rainy with winds subsiding and shifting again, from the north at 5 to 10 mph.

Daily highs Tuesday range from the mid- to upper-50s with rain ending in the late morning, Hoffman said.
