Long Island picks 2 Dems to State Supreme Court

Long Island voters elected two Democrats to the State Supreme Court on Tuesday who were cross-endorsed by county Republicans to fill a pair of vacancies.
Edmund Dane, supervising judge of Nassau’s Family Court, and Joseph Lorintz, principal law clerk to State Supreme Court Justice Randy Sue Marber, easily won a pair of seats on the court, which includes both Nassau and Suffolk. They will serve 14-year terms.
Dane and Lorintz, who appeared on both the Democratic and Republican party ballot lines, defeated Deborah Poulos and Janine Barbera-Dalli, two Conservative Party candidates, and David Calone and David Morris, who both ran on the Independence Party line.
Dane and Lorintz will replace Margaret Reilly, a Republican who was elected to Nassau’s Surrogate Court, and Democrat Hope Zimmerman, who reached the mandatory retirement age of 70.
Under the cross-endorsement deal, county Democrats would back two GOP incumbents up for re-election next year, according to Nassau Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs.
In other races Tuesday:
*Democrats Stacy Bennett, Ellen Greenberg, Conrad Singer and Ayesha Keri Brantley were the top four vote-getters for Nassau Family Court and were elected to a 10-year term. They defeated Republican candidates Eileen Daly-Sapraicone, Darlene Harris, Virginia Clavin-Higgins and Martin Massell.

*Democrats Helen Voutsinas and Eileen Goggin were elected to a six-year term in Nassau’s District Court in the 2nd District. They defeated Republican candidates David McAndrews and Dennis McDermott.
* Anthony Senft Jr. won a 10-year term on the Suffolk County Court. He ran unopposed.
* Kathy Bergmann, Martha Luft and Frank Tantone each won a 10-year term on Suffolk’s Family Court. They ran unopposed.
* Toni Bean was elected to a six-year term as a District Court judge in the Town of Babylon’s 2nd District. Bean ran unopposed.
* Allen Smith was elected to a four-year term as Riverhead Town Justice. Smith ran unopposed.
* Helen Rosenblum won a four-year term as Shelter Island Town Justice. Rosenblum was unopposed.
* Democrat Andrea Schiavoni won a four-year term as Southampton, Town Justice, defeating Republican Ernest Wruck.
