Mostly calm waters in Long Island's Friday, weekend forecast
Long Island waters are expected to be reasonably calm for most of the weekend, the National Weather Service said Friday in its marine forecast.
"Conditions will generally remain below small craft conditions through Saturday," the service's Upton office said.
An incoming warm front Friday followed by an approaching cold front from the Northwest helps build high pressure Saturday night into Sunday.
The service said there will be some opportunity for wind gusts from the southeast of up to 25 knots later in the day Friday and again on Saturday.
Seas are likely to remain around 4 feet through the weekend.
Also, there is a slight chance of rain on Saturday so "any thunderstorms that develop over the waters will be capable of heavy downpours restricting visibilities and strong gusty winds."
Inland conditions across Nassau and Suffolk counties Friday are expected to be warm and sunny, with light south winds.
