Long Island waters calm Friday, with ocean waves at 2 to 4 feet
A weak low-pressure system will pass far enough to the south and east Friday for the waters off Long Island to remain relatively calm, according to the National Weather Service.
Waves of 2 to 4 feet are predicted for the ocean, and 1-foot waves are expected for Long Island Sound.
A low pressure system will approach from the west Saturday and gale-force wind gusts are possible Saturday afternoon into Saturday night, the weather service said. It defines gale force as 34 to 47 knots, or 39 to 54 mph.
A small craft advisory is likely be issued for much of the weekend, possibly extending into Monday night, the weather service said.
