Long Islanders can expect mostly cloudy skies Thursday, the possibility of a few showers — a chance of 20 to 30 percent, the National Weather Service says — and highs in the 70s.

There’s a “chance for a few spotty showers today, but most of the day will be dry,” said Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist. “Expect mostly cloudy skies, breaks of sunshine” and highs of around 74 to 79 degrees.

At about noon, the temperature at Long Island MacArthur Airport was 77 degrees under overcast skies.

There’s a moderate risk for rip currents at ocean beaches, with a low UV Index, so those who burn easily should use sunscreen and cover up, the weather service says.

Water temperatures are in the low to mid-60s.

The overnight hours bring lows mostly in the 60s and gradually clearing skies.

Then, sunny conditions are on tap for Friday.
